You know, some people may not think it’s important. Some people may think that it’s stupid. Some people might think that it’s just a useless program.
However the kids in this program—they prove otherwise. I’ve seen so many people grow out of their shell, make beautiful friendships, and perform so amazingly with the help of Mama Rutherford, Mrs. Van Schaik, Mr. Gallagher and everyone else involved with the performing arts. The people that I used to think were so shy and timid have blossomed into wonderful personalities…ALL thanks to our band director, and choir and theater teacher.
But now that they’re gone—then what happens? I can’t find any better words than to just say that IT SUCKS. It sucks that the three of them are leaving. It sucks that there’s close to nothing that we can do about it. It sucks that I only got to spend two measly years with them. It sucks that our district doesn’t have enough money and won’t take any paycuts themselves. It sucks that our performing arts department was just starting to take flight—and now it’s wings are getting snipped. It sucks how no other departments are going through such a thing except us.
Now, I know it’s not under our school’s control. They can’t decide who the district fires or transfers. I commend anyone who stood up for the performing arts department and made an effort. I just don’t understand why it seems like we’re the only ones.
Man.
It just sucks.
